Wrexham vs Cambridge United: Team news, form guide, predicted line ups
Wrexham will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run at the Racecourse Ground this season and keep pace with Wycombe Wanderers atop the League One table when they host Cambridge United on Saturday.
The Red Dragons are tied with the Chairboys for first following a 1-0 triumph over Burton Albion last weekend, while the U’s remain in the relegation zone despite a 4-1 victory versus fellow strugglers Shrewsbury Town.
Wrexham can match a historic feat
To the surprise of many, Phil Parkinson’s men have remained near the top of the League One table thanks to their impressive defensive record.
The Welsh side have conceded 11 goals domestically in 2024-25 while posting four consecutive clean sheets in this competition.
Another one this weekend would equal their longest run without conceding a League One goal this century, drawing even with Brian Flynn’s side who posted five successive clean sheets at the end of the 1999-2000 season.
It’s been over 500 minutes since Wrexham last conceded a goal, when Louie Barry netted a screamer in the 1-0 defeat to Stockport County last month.
Wrexham duo up for awards
With three domestic triumphs in four contests last month, Phil Parkinson was nominated as League One Manager of the Month, having also won the award in August.
Max Cleworth has also been nominated for Player of the Month, after an incredible November in which Wrexham conceded just once in League One, while he also found the back of the net on two occassions.
Cambridge’s away record
The first full season for Gary Monk at Cambridge United has been anything but memorable for the former Premier League boss. His side recently ended a five-match winless run in League One, scoring as many goals against the Shrews as they had in their previous six domestic games combined.
In 2024-25, the U’s have been particularly poor, accumulating four points outside Abbey Stadium, the joint-fewest away from home in the competition this season, alongside Shrewsbury. Cambridge have scored just five League One away goals this season, while conceding 18.
Team News
Arthur Okonkwo remains sidelined for Wrexham with a wrist fracture, backup Callum Burton has a thigh strain, while Jack Marriott’s broken fibula and George Evans’ torn ankle ligaments won’t be healed by Saturday.
James Jones is doubtful after picking up a knock in their midweek fixture against Crewe, while James McClean and George Dobson are eligible to return from their suspensions.
Cambridge youngster Josh Stokes played the full 90 minutes against Cheltenham on Tuesday after struggling with his fitness throughout the fall. Shane Lavery, who injured his hamstring in September, netted a brace last Saturday.
